Twitter is a micro-blogging platform with the power to expand your brand, increase your following, and improve your sales.
Twitter is an incredible way to connect with your audience. Currently 70% of small businesses are on twitter, broadcasting messages about their products, engaging with their target customers, and creating rapport in their field.
With Twitter, you get what you put into it. By tweeting multiple times a day and interacting with your audience, you can grow a following to increase new and repeat customers.
Your Twitter profile should be an extension of your brand. When choosing a Twitter handle, using your company’s real name makes it easier for people to find you. For example, if your name is Super Car Wash in Boise Idaho, create a twitter handle like @supercarwash, instead of @idahocarwash.
Add your logo as your profile picture, and create a custom banner that represents your brand.
Once your profile is ready to go it’s time to find and interact with potential clients and influential people in your field.
To be successful on Twitter you must be active. This includes tweeting multiple times a day, retweeting relevant content, and actively looking for leads.
The advanced search tool is a great way to find leads. You can search by phrase, username, location, time period and more. For example, Let’s say you’re looking for clients who have attended a recent Color Run in Scottsdale, AZ. You can search for tweets with the hashtag or phrase “Color Run” that were posted around the Scottsdale area within two weeks before or after the race.
Once you’ve identified your clients you can connect with them directly by replying, retweeting their tweets, or mentioning them in a future tweet of your own.
This direct interaction builds relationships between your clients and your brand, boosting your follower count as a result. Actively reaching out to your audience can have a real impact on your business; 67% of twitter users say they’re more likely to buy from a brand they follow.
Twitter generates around 500 million tweets per day, so it’s easy to get lost in the noise. To remedy this, consider sending out tweets more than once. It’s okay to send the same tweet 3-4 times a day, but reword it slightly to convey the same message. Repeating tweets too often will drive followers away, so use caution.
Interactions, purchases, and customer loyalty can all benefit from an active Twitter account. Tweets should be crafted with the same caution as any other marketing material. One misguided tweet can cause significant damage to your reputation. Have a clear idea of your company’s voice when drafting tweets, and shy away from anything overly controversial.
